Windows 10 is EOL. Now what?

On October 14th, Microsoft ended support for Windows 10. That means no more free security updates, bug fixes, or technical support for the old OS.

Over the past year, we’ve seen many organizations rolling out updates and ugrades in preparation for this shift. However, some organizations haven’t yet made a move. If this is you, you’re not alone, but now’s the time to put your foot on the gas.

Next Tuesday, November 11th, Microsoft will release the first patch since ending support for Windows 10. This Patch Tuesday will mark the first missed update for Windows 10 devices that haven’t yet been upgraded or enrolled in Microsoft’s Extended Security Update (ESU) program.

“What’s an ESU”, you ask?

Extended Security Updates give those not quite ready to upgrade an option that buys them a little bit more time. If you’re on a longer upgrade ramp, ESUs allow you to keep recieveing security updates in the meantime. However, these updates are limited strictly to security patches. So, you’ll get the key updates to keep you safe, but no bug fixes or feature enhancements.

ESUs are still available for those who need more time. If you’re in a bind, it’s a good option. (Definitely better than doing nothing at all!)

Other Upgrade Options

While extending support is possible, many Windows 10 PCs are showing their age with lagging performance. If this is the case for you, investing in new workstations is the smarter investment. New PCs not only come with Windows 11 pre-loaded, but will also deliver better performance, have all the slick new features that drive efficiency, and will remain supported with security patches and bug fixes for years to come.

If you need some help determining whether your devices are covered, or are wondering if you should upgrade or extend support, we’re here to help.
